| Obverse description | Crudely struck hammered copper fals with a central field bearing multiple horizontal lines of Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in three or four registers. The legends are framed within a plain linear border, with additional marginal text running around the outer edge of the coin. The script is characteristic of early Abbasid provincial coinage, displaying angular Kufic letterforms typical of the al-Rafiqa mint. The overall fabric is irregular and the strike is slightly off-center, consistent with hand-struck provincial issues of the period. |
