| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic inscription in naskh script, reading the name and titles of Sultan al-Zahir Barquq, founder of the Burji (Circassian) Mamluk dynasty. The legend is arranged in two registers separated by a horizontal line, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The flan is characteristically irregular in outline, as is typical of hammered Mamluk copper coinage of this period. |
