| Obverse description | Central field contains the honorific title of the Zengid ruler Al-Malik al-Salih Isma'il, rendered in Kufic or Naskh-style Arabic script, enclosed within a beaded circle. A circumferential legend encircles the inner field, itself bordered by a further grenetis or beaded outer ring. The inscriptions are characteristic of Ayyubid-era Zengid coinage, with angular letter forms typical of hammered copper fals produced at the Dimashq mint. |
