| Reverse description | The reverse presents a two-zone epigraphic composition: a central circular field enclosed by a single raised line or bead border containing the Prophetic declaration in Kufic script, and a surrounding marginal legend that names the issuing authority. The inner field legend is arranged in two or three lines, while the outer marginal inscription runs continuously around the circumference, identifying the emir al-Qatiran ibn Akama and the mint city of al-Mawsil (Mosul). The Kufic lettering is bold and angular, typical of late Umayyad provincial epigraphy. The flan is irregular with edge breaks, and the strike is somewhat off-centre, as is common for hammered copper falus of this period. No figurative or geometric ornaments are present, reflecting strict Umayyad aniconic policy. |
