| Obverse lettering | الملك الناصر (Translation: Al-Malik al-Nasir [...]: `The ruler al-Nasir [...].`) |
| Reverse description | Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic inscription in Naskhi script, arranged across the flan, reading 'Al-Imam al-Musta'sim' in reference to the reigning Abbasid caliph al-Musta'sim Billah (r. 1242–1258), whose name appears as a mark of legitimacy on Ayyubid coinage. Below or adjacent appears the mint formula 'Duriba bi-Halab' (struck in Aleppo), identifying the place of issue. The reverse field is heavily patinated with olive-green and brown encrustation, and the flan edges are irregular and clipped, consistent with hammered copper coinage of this period. A partial circular border surrounds the central inscription field. The overall die work is bold but somewhat roughly executed, typical of Ayyubid fals coinage from the Aleppo mint. |
