Additional information

Al-Nāṣir Muḥammad IV ruled for under two years before being deposed in 1498, one of the Mamluk sultanate's many short-reigned figureheads of the late fifteenth century — a period when real power cycled through competing amirs rather than the sultan himself. Copper fals from such brief reigns were struck in limited quantities and rarely survive, as base-metal coinage absorbed hard daily use and was melted or discarded without sentiment.

Bal II#850 is among the scarcer listings in Balog's corpus for this sultan.
