| Reverse description | Central field displays a multi-line Kufic Arabic inscription identifying the caliph and including a Quranic verse (Quran 9:33), arranged in horizontal registers. The upper lines read 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God' and 'al-Mahdi', followed by the Quranic citation: 'He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religions, even if the polytheists detest it.' The flan is irregular and moderately worn, with the characteristic flat hammered surfaces of Abbasid copper coinage. Patina is dark green-brown with areas of encrustation. |
