Obverse description Central field dominated by a multi-line Arabic inscription in Naskh script, arranged within a rectangular frame or cartouche. The legends, rendered in bold strokes typical of late Mamluk copper coinage, contain the name and titles of the sultan al-Ẓāhir Barquq. A short inscription or decorative element appears above the cartouche in the upper field. The flan is irregular and slightly worn, consistent with hammered copper coinage of the Dimashq mint.
