A multiline inscription appears to the right of the effigy, with the engraver's signature visible below the truncation.

Reverse description Crowned Germania seated centrally on a throne, holding a sword, flanked by allegorical figures: to the left a semi-nude soldier bearing helmet, sword and shield; to the right a semi-nude sailor with an anchor; in the foreground centre a kneeling colonial figure with trade goods and an elephant's ivory tusk. The circular legend runs around the upper field, with the date and place of the exhibition inscribed in the lower exergue. The engraver's mark AWES.BRLN is visible in the lower field.
