Obverse description Facing crowned royal effigy with long curls falling on either side, covering the ears, rendered in a stylized medieval fashion characteristic of hammered sterlings. The portrait is set within a double pearled border, with the legend distributed around the circumference in uncial Latin characters. The composition follows the English sterling prototype closely adapted for the Luxembourg coinage of John the Blind.
