Obverse description The obverse depicts a precision coining press rendered in fine engraved detail, centered within the field. The press is shown in frontal view with its screw mechanism, crossbar, and weighted arms extending to either side. Two small decorative vignettes appear on the base of the press. Above the device, the initials 'E.M.P.' (Etablissement Monétaire de Paris) are inscribed in a semicircular arrangement, separated by raised dots. The design is the work of engraver Joaquin Jimenez and is characteristic of the trial strike series produced for technical evaluation purposes.
