| Obverse description | A plain annular field surrounds a central circular perforation. The inscription '1946 ESSAI DE FRAPPE' is disposed in a continuous legend encircling the central hole, with the date '1946' positioned at the upper arc and the words 'ESSAI DE FRAPPE' arranged around the lower and lateral portions of the field. The design is entirely typographic, with no figurative motifs, the lettering rendered in raised relief against an otherwise unadorned surface. This striking trial piece exemplifies the minimalist experimental coinage produced by the Monnaie de Paris in the immediate post-liberation period. |
