Obverse description Central field depicts the crowned Portuguese royal arms — the quinas shield bearing five escutcheons in saltire, each charged with five bezants, surmounted by a royal crown — all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in the Gothic heraldic style typical of the Afonsine period. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters runs along the outer border, beginning with a cross pattée. The flan is irregular in outline, characteristic of hammered medieval coinage.

Reverse description Central field features a long sword (espadim) oriented vertically point downward, flanked by two crowned lions passant facing the blade, the entire device set within a beaded inner circle. The composition is characteristic of the espadim type issued under Afonso V, referencing royal military authority. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the inner circle, preceded by a cross pattée. The hammered flan exhibits the typical uneven edge contour of medieval Portuguese coinage.
