Reverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms, comprising the traditional quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) within a shield, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown with cross finial. The shield is framed by ornate Baroque scrollwork and foliate mantling extending to either side, all rendered in fine relief. The reverse field is unlettered, the entire design filling the coin's face within the toothed border, with no exergual inscription.
