Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Louis XIV facing right, rendered in the late Baroque portrait style characteristic of the reign. The effigy shows the king with long flowing hair and armor beneath the drapery. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, interrupted by pellet stops, reading LVD·XIIII·D·G·FR·ET·NAV·REX. The coin field is flat with the portrait dominating the centre, and the reeded collar is visible at the rim.
