Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Louis XIV facing right, with flowing long hair, engraved by Norbert Roettiers. The king is depicted in a mature effigy, wearing a cuirass with decorative pauldron visible at the shoulder truncation. The Latin legend encircles the bust within a beaded inner border, reading LVD. XIIII. D: G. FR. ET. NAV. RE.DB., abbreviating his royal titles as King of France and Navarre. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and armor, characteristic of the late Louis XIV coinage style.
