| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a large crown with fleurs-de-lis finials. A mint letter (B, for Rouen) appears at the base of the shield as a small pellet-punctuated initial. The design is contained within a raised inner circle, with the surrounding legend in Gothic-style Latin majuscules reading FRANCISCVS: DEI: G: FRANCORVM: REX, separated by pellet stops. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular planchet shape typical of mid-16th century French gold coinage. |
