Obverse description Draped bust of Charles I of Gonzaga right, depicted with curly hair and a short beard, wearing elaborately decorated armour with a lace collar and the insignia of a chivalric order visible on his chest. The effigy is rendered in high relief in a refined Renaissance style. A beaded inner border frames the portrait, with the circumferential Latin legend reading CAR GONZ ET CLEVEN D NIV ET RETH running around the periphery.
