| Obverse description | Central field features a stylized rampant Dutch lion rendered in an Art Nouveau-influenced design, depicted holding a bundle of arrows and a sword, the traditional attributes of the Netherlands coat of arms. The lion is surrounded by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars, symbolic of the European Community. The circular legend KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN runs along the upper periphery in a distinctive informal typeface, while the denomination ECU appears at the base of the coin.
