| Additional information |
The KNRM — Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij — was formed in 1991 through the merger of two older rescue societies, the oldest of which traced back to 1824, making 1999 the 175th anniversary of organized sea rescue in the Netherlands. This piece is a so-called ECU-type fantasy issue, struck for the collector market in the final months before the euro made the ECU's nominal value permanently obsolete.
