| Obverse description | Crowned and draped bust of John II Casimir Vasa facing right, wearing an ornate royal crown with cross finial, the hair rendered in long flowing curls falling to the shoulder. The king is depicted in armour with an elaborate mantle clasp visible at the chest. A Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading IOAN CASIMI – DG REX P&S I T, identifying the monarch as King of Poland and Sweden by the Grace of God. The portrait is executed in the bold baroque relief characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Polish gold coinage. |
