Reverse description The reverse depicts Tutela, the personification of guardianship and protection, seated facing left on a throne or chair, extending her hands toward two small children or suppliants standing before her in an attitude of entreaty. A second standing figure, possibly a togatus or attendant, appears at the right. The composition conveys imperial benevolence and the protective duty of the emperor toward his subjects. The legend TVTELA AVGVSTI is distributed in the field, with the large senatorial authority mark S C prominently displayed in the lower exergual area.
