She holds a cornucopia in her left arm, symbolising prosperity and the abundance of the Roman state under Trajan's rule. A small modius or additional attribute appears at her feet. The senatorial mark of authority S C (Senatus Consultum) is placed prominently in the field to either side of the figure, as was standard on aes coinage of the imperial period. The reverse legend S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI encircles the scene, proclaiming the dedication of the senate and people of Rome to their best of princes. |
