Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, depicted with characteristic close-cropped hair and strong facial features in the Roman imperial portrait tradition. The emperor's effigy is shown with a radiate crown, distinguishing this denomination as a dupondius rather than an as. A draped paludamentum is visible over the shoulder, and some specimens bear an aegis on the left breast. The encircling legend runs clockwise around the bust within the coin's field.
