| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a heroically nude or semi-draped figure of Trajan on horseback, advancing to the right in a dynamic martial composition, the emperor raising his right arm in a gesture of command or triumph while his horse tramples a fallen Dacian warrior beneath its hooves. The exergue is plain. The senatorial abbreviation S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the lower field on either side of the horse's legs, authorizing the bronze coinage. The encircling legend S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI frames the scene, celebrating Trajan as the best of princes by decree of the Senate and Roman People. |
