Obverse description Draped bust of Salus Augusta facing right, her hair elaborately coiffed and bound at the nape, depicted in a refined Julio-Claudian style. The personification wears a mantle fastened at the shoulder, rendered with careful attention to drapery folds. The encircling legend SALVS AVGVSTA runs around the field, identifying the figure as the divine embodiment of health and well-being associated with the Augustan dynasty. The portrait is executed in high relief against a broad, flat field typical of early Imperial aes coinage. The flan is slightly irregular, consistent with hand-struck production of the period.
