Reverse description The goddess Vesta depicted seated to the left upon an ornate high-backed throne, her figure fully draped in flowing robes rendered in the classical Roman style. In her extended right hand she holds the Palladium, the sacred image of Athena symbolising Rome's divine protection, while her left hand grasps a long vertical sceptre. The legend VESTA appears in the field, with the senatorial authority mark S C placed prominently in the exergue below the throne's footrest.
