| Reverse description | The personification of Pannonia stands facing, head turned to the left, wearing military attire including a helmet; she holds a vexillum (military standard) in her right hand and gathers her robe or cloak with her left hand. The figure occupies the central field with the legend TR POT COS II distributed in the upper field and PANNONIA in the lower field, flanked by the large senatorial mark S C in the exergue area. This reverse type commemorates Lucius Aelius Caesar's governorship of the Danubian provinces and his connection with Pannonia. The composition is typical of the allegorical provincial types struck under Hadrian at the Rome mint. |
