| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped bust of Hadrian facing right, with the emperor's characteristic curly hair and short beard rendered in fine detail, the paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The effigy is portrayed in three-quarter rear view, a convention employed on several of Hadrian's provincial restoration series. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays the high-relief modeling typical of the Roman Imperial mint's finest bronze issues of the early second century AD. |
