| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Hadrian facing right, with short curly hair and a full beard rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition characteristic of his reign. The emperor is depicted with a draped and cuirassed shoulder, the effigy occupying the central field with bold, high-relief modelling. A dotted border frames the design, and the obverse legend is distributed around the periphery in Latin capitals. The portrait displays the idealized yet individualised naturalism typical of Hadrianic imperial coinage from the Rome mint. |
