Obverse description Bare-headed and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with characteristic short curly hair and close-cropped beard, a hallmark of Hadrianic portraiture. The effigy displays fine sculptural modelling, with the paludamentum (military cloak) visible at the truncation of the shoulder. The circumferential Latin legend HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS runs around the periphery, bordered by a beaded inner rim. The portrait reflects the Hellenistic artistic sensibility that distinguished Hadrianic coinage from earlier imperial issues.
