She extends her right hand forward presenting an olive branch, a symbol of the province's renowned agricultural wealth. At her feet or to the right, a rabbit — the iconic zoomorphic emblem of the Iberian Peninsula — is depicted in the field. The legend HISPANIA appears in the upper field, while the large senatorial authority mark S C flanks the central design. The composition reflects Hadrian's celebrated series of provincial reverses commemorating the emperor's travels throughout the empire. |
