| Reverse description | A modius — the Roman grain-measure vessel — rendered frontally in the centre of the field, overflowing with grain ears and poppies that fan outward above the rim in a decorative spray, symbolising imperial abundance and the state-administered grain supply. The senatorial mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is placed in the left and right fields respectively, flanking the central type, as is standard for Roman aes coinage of the period. The legend ANNONA AVG encircles the design, invoking the divine personification of the imperial grain supply. The composition is bold and emblematic, consistent with Hadrianic reverse typology celebrating Rome's provisioning of the populace. |
