| Obverse description | Radiate head of Nero facing right, rendered in high relief with characteristic fleshy features, curled hair arranged in the Julio-Claudian fashion, and a radiate crown denoting the dupondius denomination. The laureate neck terminates in a lightly draped bust. The encircling legend reads NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P, disposed around the full circumference of the flan in well-spaced capital letters. The portrait displays the robust, somewhat idealized style typical of Neronian coinage struck at the Rome mint during his later reign. |
