| Reverse description | The reverse features the large senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consulto) prominently displayed in the central field, executed in bold relief. The letters are well-spaced and dominate the flan, a hallmark of Julio-Claudian aes coinage issued under senatorial authority. Surrounding the S C, the full imperial titulature of Caligula (Gaius Caesar) runs in a continuous circular legend along the coin's periphery. The field is otherwise plain, with no additional decorative elements or exergual markings. This reverse type is characteristic of the commemorative dupondii struck early in Caligula's reign. |
