| Reverse description | The personification of Virtus stands facing left in a martial pose, depicted as a helmeted, armored female figure in military dress. She raises her right hand, possibly holding a spear or parazonium aloft, while her left hand rests on a long vertical spear or scepter. A parazonium or short sword is visible at her side. The senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is placed in the field to either side of the figure, left and right respectively, and the surrounding legend VIRTVTI AVGVSTI encircles the design. The bold, well-centered reverse type reflects the classicizing style favored at the Rome Mint in the early Hadrianic period. |
