Reverse description Standing figure of Ceres facing left in full length, draped in long robes, holding a long torch or grain stalk in her raised right hand and a sceptre or cornucopia in her left hand. The goddess is rendered in a dignified, classical style typical of Flavian reverse iconography. The senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is prominently displayed in the field to either side of the figure. The legend CERES AVGVST arcs around the upper portion of the reverse, identifying the goddess in her exalted, imperial aspect. The reverse field shows significant wear and patination consistent with a circulated bronze issue.
