Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of Bern — a diagonal stripe with a walking bear passant — surmounted by an open mural crown. The shield is flanked on either side by a laurel branch forming a wreath, all elements rendered in high relief against a plain field. The circular legend RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by the wreath, with the text reading from left to right around the upper and lateral margins.

Reverse description Full-length figure of a Swiss soldier — the Helvetian warrior — standing facing, dressed in Renaissance-period armour with a plumed helmet, holding an upright fasces staff in his right hand and resting his left hand on a bundled fasces at his side. The figure stands on a plain ground line with the date 1829 in the exergue below. The legend DEUS PROVIDEBIT arcs across the upper field, flanking the warrior's helmet to left and right.
