The 1630 Bydgoszcz ducats of Sigismund III occupy an awkward position in Polish numismatics: the king was in the final year of his life, the mint was operating under persistent financial pressure, and the Commonwealth was entangled in the ongoing war with Sweden over control of Livonia. Bydgoszcz itself was a secondary mint — Gdańsk and Kraków dominated gold production — which makes its ducat output from this period notably scarce by volume.
Kop. 1414 is one of several catalogued varieties from this year, distinguished by die specifics that Kopicki documented across multiple emission types from the Bydgoszcz facility.
