Obverse description Central field displays the quartered Holland-Bavarian coat of arms — combining the lion of Holland with the Bavarian lozenges — surmounted by a decorative branch or sprig at the top. The shield is set within a circular inner border, with the surrounding legend running along the outer periphery. The die work is characteristic of early fifteenth-century Low Countries hammered coinage, with a somewhat irregular flan and bold, if worn, relief.
