Obverse description Provincial name abbreviation inscribed in four lines within the field, reading 'D / GEL / RIÆ' above the date, the whole enclosed by a decorative wreath of tulip branches with blossoms at the base and sides. The legend is rendered in bold capital letters characteristic of hammered provincial coinage of the Dutch Golden Age. No effigy is present; the design is purely typographic and heraldic in nature. The date appears in the lower portion of the field beneath the province name.
