| Reverse description | The Dutch maiden (Hollandia), personification of the Province of Holland, is depicted seated facing, enclosed within a garden fence or hortus conclusus, her right arm raised. She is draped in flowing robes and surrounded by vegetation. The encircling Latin legend is interrupted by floral stops and reads as a Psalm-derived motto. The overall composition reflects the emblematic civic iconography typical of Dutch Provincial coinage of the early seventeenth century. |
