Overijssel's duit coinage of this period sits amid considerable political turbulence: the province was still actively contested during the Eighty Years' War, and Spanish forces had only recently been expelled from much of the region. Local provincial minting rights were jealously guarded, and Overijssel's output was frequently irregular in volume, which accounts for the relatively narrow two-year window of this issue. The CNM classification places it within a well-documented but sparsely surviving provincial series.
