Reverse description Central device consists of a bold, raised Cross of the Order of Christ (Cruz de Cristo), rendered in the characteristic pattée form with flared terminals, occupying the majority of the reverse field. The cross is unadorned and deeply struck, with no surrounding legend or additional devices. The plain field surrounding the cross gives the design a stark, austere appearance typical of Portuguese colonial pattern coinage.
