Reverse description The reverse displays the crowned arms of the Generality of the Dutch Republic, supported on either side by standing lions rampant, emblematic of the Union of Utrecht. Below the shield, the date 1790 appears within a decorative cartouche. The heraldic composition is executed with baroque elaboration consistent with high-denomination Dutch coinage of the late eighteenth century. The encircling legend bears the famous motto of the Republic, expressing the ideal of concord among the confederated provinces.
