Additional information

Sede Vacante issues were struck by cathedral chapters during the interval between a bishop's death and the installation of his successor — a window in which the chapter held temporal as well as spiritual authority over the prince-bishopric. Liège's chapter was among the more assertive in exercising this right. The 1771 vacancy followed the death of Prince-Bishop Jean-Théodore de Bavière, whose reign had stretched nearly four decades and whose Bavarian dynastic connections had long complicated the chapter's independence.

The Delmonte reference remains the authoritative source for Liège gold, and Fr#336 places this squarely in the Faeberger corpus of Low Countries ducats.
