Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a fully armored standing knight faces right, brandishing a drawn sword in his right hand and holding a bundle of seven arrows in his left, symbolizing the union of the seven Dutch provinces. The date is divided by the knight's figure and appears within the legend along the broken circle. A privy mark punctuates the end of the peripheral Latin legend. The design is rendered in the bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of Dutch Republic provincial coinage.
