| Obverse description | Central field displays a crowned rampant lion facing left, rendered in the late-medieval heraldic style characteristic of the Low Countries ducat series. The lion stands on a decorative ground line, its mane and tail elaborately detailed, with the right forepaw raised in the traditional passant-rampant attitude. The figure is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, outside of which runs the abbreviated Latin legend identifying the issuing lord, Frederick, Count of Bergh. The legend is separated by ornamental stops and wraps around the full circumference of the coin, with the irregular flan edge typical of hammered gold coinage of this period. |
