Reverse description The reverse displays the arms of the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt at center: a globe surmounted by two crossed scepters entwined with olive branches, the entire device enclosed within a decorative cartouche or cloud-like mantling at the base. Above the shield, a radiant all-seeing eye within a triangle — the Eye of Providence — emits long sunrays filling the upper field. The circular legend VIRTUTE ET EXEMPLO arches around the upper periphery in bold Roman capitals, separated by the central device. The whole composition is enclosed within a beaded border matching the obverse, and reflects the civic pride and Enlightenment symbolism characteristic of Frankfurt's coronation coinage.
