Obverse description Draped bust of Charles III, Duke of Savoy, facing right, wearing a broad beret with voluminous crown; the effigy is rendered in a bold, late-medieval hammered style with the bust breaking the inner border at the base. The circumferential Latin legend reads +CAROLVS DVX SABAVDIE II, separated by the portrait and running within a beaded or rope-type border. The portrait occupies the majority of the field, characteristic of the Savoyard ducal coinage of the early sixteenth century.
